I have nothing to sell you but hope, and that I give you for free.

The next time you visit the neurologist, ask them about these things.  I've added what I think should be their answers:

Q: "What are the characteristics of CBD at the cellular level?"

Q: "Are the neurons in the affected parts of the brain having a problem with using glucose?"
Ans:  "Yes.  They are able see these regions of the brain that are having a problem using glucose with an MRI.  It's called 'glucose hypometabolism'."

Q: "Is there any way to treat this problem with using glucose?"
Ans.:  "Yes.  Adding medium chain triglycerides to the diet will cause the liver to dump ketones into the blood, and even if the neurons are having a problem with using glucose, they might still be able to use the ketones for fuel."

Q: "Where do I get 'medium chain triglycerides'?"
Ans:  "There is a 'medical food' called 'Axona' that I can prescribe.  It is a bit expensive if your insurance won't cover it.  In that case, you might be able to use the MCT oil supplements that you can get from health food stores.  If you can't get that, then you might even try using coconut oil."

Q:  "How much do I need to use?"
Ans:  "With Axona, the dose is 20 grams of MCT oil once a day.  But you might need it more often, especially with the MCT oil supplements."

Q:  "Is there a problem with tau proteins involved with CBD?"
Ans:  "Yes.  They get corrupted and form clumps inside the brain cells, and don't perform their normal function.  We don't know if this the cause of the disease or a symptom."

Q:  "Is there anything that might be able to treat this tau protein problem?"
Ans:  "Yes.  There are at least four:  Methylene blue, niacinamide, an extract from grape seeds, and a water-soluble extract of cinnamon."

Q:  "Are any of these things guaranteed to work?"
Ans: "No.  CBD is a very rare disease, so there just hasn't been enough research, experimentation, and testing done yet.  But consider the alternative of doing nothing."

Q:  "Are there any side effects?"
Ans:  "There are side effects with anything you put in your body.  For these things, in the amounts we're talking about, the most likely problem is diarrhea.  There may also be the chance that some will interact with other prescription drugs.  We can work on that.  Again, there just hasn't been enough research.  CBD is so rare that it's not likely any will be done in the near future.  So, we have the choice of doing nothing and letting the disease take its course, or trying some of these things."
