Observations:

The sugar compound beta cyclodextrin (HPBCD) is being used experimentally to treat a rare cellular cholesterol metabolism disease called "Niemann Pick Type C" (often referred to as the Childhood Alzheimer’s).

Research by Drs. Michael S. Brown and Joseph L. Goldstein.  Dr. David Begley, at Kings College London is or was also working on this. He is reported to be one of the world’s leading blood brain barrier experts.
