Observations:
Scientists
in Italy investigate cocoa's cognitive benefits
The high flavonol content of raw coca brings substantial health
benefits, especially for those with mild cognitive problems.
Indeed a scientific study, conducted by the University L'Aquila
and published in the peer reviewed journal Hypertension, has
demonstrated that taking raw cocoa each day brings significant
improvements in cognitive function.
The formally managed study involved 90 elderly individuals with
mild cognitive impairment who were split into three groups, each
consuming different levels of raw cocoa (high, intermediate and
low). The participants were subjected to two mental speed tests
and a verbal fluency test. The group that consumed a cocoa
drink, containing about 990 mg of flavonols (about 1 ½ tbls) for
a period of 8 weeks were found to show significant improvements
in both mental processing speed and verbal fluency (P<0.05).
). Insulin resistance, blood pressure, and lipid peroxidation
also decreased among subjects in the high-flavonol and
intermediate-flavonol groups.

Where can I get Raw Cocoa (Cacao) Powder?
Unfortunately, only cocoa powder in its raw state can deliver
the health benefits discussed above. This is because the heat
and chemical processing deployed in normal chocolate manufacture
destroys the flavonols which are the source of the health
benefits we seek. Fortunately, as the benefits of raw cocoa have
been re-discovered, more sources are emerging. Supplies are
still, however, difficult to track down. Here are a few sources
that we believe offer the quality of raw cocoa powder necessary
to obtain the flavonol content we seek. Simply search the site
for raw cocoa or cacao.

Taking Raw Cocoa Powder
You can consume raw cocoa powder in the same ways as regular
cocoa. For people with CBD we would recommend trying 1½ tbsp in
warm milk or added to your favourite espresso drink. Should you
need to sweeten the drink then consider adding some trehalose as
this also aids clearance of toxins from the brain (see Neuro-preservation
regimen by Sharon Comden).
Trehalose is available in The USA
from http://neurocoat.com/
or in the UK from http://www.trehalose.co.uk.
